Erectile Dysfunction Tied to Gum Disease

Chronic bacterial infection of the gums is known to be a major cause of tooth loss and to create a higher risk for cardiovascular disease, which in turn increases the risk for stroke. Fox News has published a report indicating that these same factors increase the risk of erectile dysfunction (ED).
"It might still be too early to suggest that men with ED should have their teeth checked; and that men with chronic periodontitis should worry about their sexual function," Zhao said. "However, it might be beneficial to inform patients with chronic periodontitis about its association with ED."
